Job Exploration

Unlocking Opportunities

Job exploration is the process of discovering which careers align with your skills and interests and then developing a plan to get there. It also involves learning about the job search process.

Job Exploration:

  • Individualized approach:
Considering the specific disability and its impact on the student's abilities when suggesting career paths and accommodations.
  • Providing career information in various formats like audio, large print, or digital text to ensure accessibility.
  • Focusing on building both hard skills relevant to chosen careers and soft skills like communication, problem-solving, and teamwork.
  • Working with disability services on campus, vocational rehabilitation agencies, and employers to identify suitable job opportunities and accommodations. â€‹
  • Individualized sessions to discuss interests, strengths, and potential career options. â€‹
  • Observing professionals in their workplace to gain firsthand experience about a career.
  • Visiting different companies to understand work environments and potential accessibility features.
  • Gaining practical work experience in a relevant field with appropriate accommodations.
  • Practicing interview skills in a simulated setting to prepare for job applications.
